My first-ever makers market was at Rock House Brewing in October of 2021. I spent months preparing and asked everyone I knew for their feedback on my pieces, prices, and approach. It was clear that I was nervous, but I was also very excited for my first opportunity to share my work with others. Since then, I have participated in nine makers markets at Rock House. I have loved every minute of it, even when the sales are slow, even when I'm right next to a live band, and even when it's 90 degrees in the building. This place gave me my first chance as a woodworker to grow.
In November of this year, they gave me another first: an art exhibition. I poured countless hours into putting together an exhibition that I thought would mean something, and finally, I was able to hang it up in its temporary home. This came shortly after I found out Rock House was up for sale and going to be changing. It breaks my heart to know that the place where I cut my teeth as an artist will not be the same.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Rock House and everyone that has been a part of my experiences there. Thank you, Savannah and Camile, for encouraging me to do my first market. Thank you to Sean and Kristen for your tireless work organizing the markets. Thank you to all the vendors I have had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you to my friends and family that have supported me along this journey and visited me at so many markets. And finally, thank you Rock House for the firsts.
